Russian Video Translation

On the EU forums, Babykim has translated a video done by the Russian YouTuber getfun that involves the new version of the British cruisers, since they were changed from DD-like ships with smoke and good HE shells. Let’s just say that not everyone’s going to be happy with this, not at all.

The new RN cruisers:

All cruisers, except tier 5, have AP only.

(nerf) Their alpha damage is lowered initially 3200, to

1400 till tier 4

1500 on tiers 5 to 8

1600 on tier 9 to 10.

(buff) When a RN cruiser AP shell hits anywhere except the citadel, its damage will be 1/2, instead of the usual 1/6.

(nerf) There will be no smoke consumable.

(buff) The will be an improved Engine Boost, that increases the speed by 15 percent, instead of the usual 8 [0.8%, perhaps?] percent. The improved boost takes the fighter slot. This allows simultaneously taking Damage Control Party, Hydroacoustic Search and the (improved) Engine Boost consumables.

There is still no Defensive AA Fire consumable.

Most other parameters, such as turret rotation speed, rate of fire and the AA auras remain the same.

The premium HMS Belfast will remain an HE spammer, with AP as an option, and will retain the Radar.

(nerf) All ships up to tier 7 will lose the Radar.

(buff) All ships of tiers 8 and 10 will get the improved Repair Party, which restores 2912 hitpoints per second. This healing speed is thus quicker than of other tier 9 and 10 ships. The improved Repair Party is more effective in terms of the percentage of lost hit points that can be restored per second. Normally the Repair Party restores 0.5 percent (HMS Warspite 0.6 percent) of maximum hit points per second. On the RM cruisers this parameter will be buffed to 8 percent per second.

However, despite all the above buffs, the rumor is that the RN cruisers are still not very competitive, and perhaps therefore are far from release.

The new Rank Battle Season:

The season will commence shortly after the release of 0.5.12. It will be on tiers 6 to 8, 23 ranks and more irrevocable ranks. Some maps will be removed, while other added.

  1. I’m so confused –
they take a load of CLs, remove the key CL weapon at higher tiers (HE spam), HALVE the AP damage from a perfectly normal amount to a stupidly small one, then say the line is uncompetetive? They then remove smoke (even though sitting in smoke would require someone else to spot, and would therefore be the very teamplay they claim to encourage) and rewrite the AP damage, Speed boost and repair values.
Why not just give them good range and RoF, and high AP damage but poor penetration (most countries used AP for 6″ guns but the UK used CPBC, with a smaller AP cap and more explosive inside, so the bursting charge was twice that or more of other countries, but with less penetration. Maybe 4100 damage but very hard to get a citadel or something due to low Krupp values).
Instead they get no fire chance, torpedoes that you cant launch from stealth at all, no smoke, no chance of killing an enemy with a well placed AP salvo in the citadel, and gimped damage everywhere else. Of course its going to be a bad line of ships if you do that!

    1. I didn’t quite agree with the original idea of HE-spamming, but the smoke was interesting and really original; that, and it made sense with British cruisers historically which is a nice touch.

As it is, they seem like what German cruisers should’ve been, but less interesting because of their restrictions. I wouldn’t mind seeing something like the German cruiser line having good survivability and high AP penetration but with bad HE, while the British have maneuverability and smoke with high-damage AP and better HE, but are squishy and don’t have as good penetration.

I’m hoping that the devs rethink things, but at this rate who knows if the British cruisers will even be out this year.
